Our services to control mice and rats

Rodents pose a serious threat to health and business activity (further information about mice&rats)

They can be controlled by using poisons, i.e. baits, gels and dusts, collectively known as rodenticides, in sealed, tamper-proof bait stations. These are not traps.

There are two basic types of rodenticides:

1. Acute: poison that kills after one feed. 2. Chronic: poison that requires multiple feeds to kill.

We usually use chronic poisons, even though they may seem slow to work, because they allow the possibility of administering an antidote if accidentally ingested by a person or a non-target animal (reducing risk to the technician and the client) and they also allow control of a greater part of the target population (increasing long term efficiency).

We use a variety of different poisons, to enable us to tailor our treatment to your requirements. For example, in a kitchen or other area where food may be available to mice or rats, such as a bin area, we would use mix the poison into a chocolate or peanut butter base, to compete with the alternative food sources. In an ongoing treatment (a contract), different chemicals are used to ensure that resistance to the poison does not build up in a rodent population.

Under the Control Of Substances Hazardous to Health regulations (COSHH), non-chemical methods of control must be identified and used before chemical intervention. This is why we always advise proofing to accompany our treatment. We also provide hygiene and housekeeping advice if necessary.

The Microbee technician always writes a report at the end of the visit to advise the client on how the situation is progressing and gives detailed instructions on what proofing needs to be done (by a professional builder or maintenance person).

Health and Safety Note:

One of the major reasons for carrying out pest control work is to exclude or eliminate potential vectors of disease from within commercial properties. Technicians carrying out such work will inevitably come into close contact with these pests and the diseases they carry.

The Microbee technicians are made fully aware of these risks. They are also aware of the precautions that are required, i.e. personal protective clothing, which includes overalls, gloves, boots, hard hats, face masks and hair nets to protect them from the hazards and risks posed by the active presence of disease, vectors and pests within the premises.

The technician’s report will advise the about which chemicals and other materials were used, and what they should do to prevent the chemicals affecting themselves or other people in the building.

Our services to control squirrels

Grey squirrels are a serious pest species, doing a lot of damage to buildings (further information about squirrels). The best method to control squirrels is by trapping.

We can sell you a squirrel trap, and show you how to set it up and check it. All traps have to be regularly checked and trapped animals dispatched quickly since it is illegal in the UK to be wantonly cruel, even to a pest animal.

If necessary, we can come out and release trapped squirrels for you, at a small call-out charge.
